There's more than one way in and out of Hogwarts - anyone who's spent even a day inside the castle, where staircases rearrange themselves and corridors appear and disappear at random could guess at that. Not only is there more than one, they might hazard, there's likely to be dozens. And if anyone knows them all, it's Albus Dumbledore.
Of course, for all the secret entranceways known only to the headmaster of Hogwarts, there are a very few known on a slightly wider basis. This, perhaps, might explain why the statue of the humpbacked witch is not the sole shadowy figure biding its time in the third-floor corridor of Hogwarts.
Even here, the muffled rumble of the doors sliding shut is - just about - audible.
